We, in Cape Town, are aware of the prevalence of homelessness. Homeless people go without having their basic human needs met. Instead of aiming to ‘solve the problem,’ the team at Cafféluxe joined the Souper Troopers team on Sunday 25 Feb 2018 and provided services that bring homeless people some dignity and attention.
Souper Troopers have had 42 ‘socials’ (monthly events) that are a platform for allowing homeless individuals a space to have some fun and feel ‘human.’ Significantly, these events are frequently run together with people on the street. Some help in the kitchen, others give haircuts, and most of the people attending always help with keeping an eye out, making sure everything runs smoothly.
Through collaboration with volunteers, homeless individuals, and corporates, the social on 25 Feb 2018 included:
- A wholesome meal
- Cupcakes & Sweet Treats
- Iced Coffee
- Bottled water
- Arts & Crafts
- Medical Assistance
- Games and other entertainment
We are all human. We all have a story. Together we are the change.
The team and management of Cafféluxe are firm believers that giving back to local communities, persons and families in need, should be the fundament of any business.
This year we focused on supporting local sporting teams and initiatives by donating soccer kits, boots, coffee and our time. Our activities included raising funds by selling coffee at sporting venues, buying boots for juniors and helping senior players compete at club level.
On Sunday 2 October 2016, Cafféluxe & MSB Nitros Events team launched a development academy in Nyanga, Cape Town. We have selected 10 boys that will form part of the project and represent the MSB Nitros Events Development Academy – playing in all major tournaments. The aim is to grow this number as we go along.
The 10 boys that we have selected have no exposure to organized football & play in a street league in Nyanga, as they cannot afford to pay registration fees or purchase soccer kits etc. We have decided to provide these boys with a platform to develop and expose them to organized football.
Instead of doing just a normal boot and kit drive, Cafféluxe and MSB Nitros Events Development Academy are committed to seeing these boys develop and grow and actively participating in helping them succeed.
We are very excited about this initiative and so are the boys and community of Nyanga.
